"Peak When It Counts"

From the summer, until now, we have gradually added volume to our practices. And, consequently, the ladies are now the most sore that they've been. In fact, they are so sore that I've had to reduce some of the volumes in our practices this week.

But, beginning with the next mesocycle, we will gradually reduce volume in our practices.

This method of training is steeped in scientific research, and allows our ladies to be at their best when it counts the most- the MAC Championships!

Mini-Meet Recap

The 2009 Miami Track and Field Mini-Meet came to a close on Friday, with competition in the HJ, 100m Dash, 200m Dash and "split" 400m Dash.

In the HJ, Multi-eventers Nicki Mitchell and Ashley Zaper got off to a strong start, as both nearly cleared 5' 6". Both ladies have the ability to clear higher bars...

In the sprints, MAC Champion Margarita Pogorelov captured both the 100m Dash (11.82) and 200m Dash (25.04). Sophomore Diona Graves continued her improvement and took 2nd in both races (12.29 and 25.52), as she attempts to establish herself as one of the premier sprinters in the MAC.

In the "split' 400m Dash, MAC Finalist Rachael Clay took the top spot, in a time of 54.53. She ran her first 200 in 26.24, and following just 30 seconds of rest, ran her next 200 in 28.29. Clay will seek high honors in the 400m Dash when the 2010 MAC Championships roll around.

All in all, the meet was a good experience for the ladies, as they were able to compete for the 1st time this season.

Mini-Meet, Day 1

The girls performed VERY well this afternoon...

Long Jump
-Magda Wikar recorded the winning jump at 5.55m (18' 2.5"), and Nicki Mitchell took 2nd with a jump of 5.45m (17' 10.5"). Freshman Ashley Zaper recorded a jump of 5.35m (17' 6.5").

Nicki did have one other tremendous jump- albeit a 1 cm foul- of 5.71m (18' 9").

Pole Vault
-Senior Brittney Bernardoni is quietly returning to her previous form, as she cleared 3.50m (11' 6"). I shut her down after 1 attempt at 12' 0", due to a previous shoulder injury. But, she had hip height to clear 12' 6".

The girls take to the track again tomorrow afternoon for the HJ, 100m Dash, 200m Dash and 400m Dash!
